Ecological Surveys

Countryside Consultants undertakes both habitat and protected species surveys to provide a complete ecological survey and assessment package suited to planning applications, impact assessment work, site-based surveys, strategic landscape-based surveys and DEFRA licence work.

We provide comprehensive habitat assessment surveys to National Vegetation Classification (Phase I & II) and Environment Agency River Corridor standards, making the best possible use of Global Positioning Technology and Global Information Systems to accurately map and characterise the United Kingdom's vegetation types.

We also provide survey for most types of protected species of wildlife such as bats, great crested newt, slow worm, water vole, otter, white-clawed crayfish, badger and dormouse with licenced and experienced staff.

Ecological surveys are invariably used as tools for environmental assessments as part of planning applications or management plans and we are adept at producing high quality independent assessments setting out mitigation and compensation reports. This kind of assessment work is becoming an integral part of the planning system as a result of Planning Policy Statement 9 and we haven a proven track record producing professional assessments for both small and large scale development work.

We are also registered with the Forestry Commission to undertake woodland assessment surveys as part of the Better Woodlands for England and Wales programme.
